Hello!
My name is Sarah Andersen, and I'm a fashion designer, researcher, and creative based in Nashville, Tennessee. I’m currently earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Fashion Design at Belmont University’s O’More School of Architecture & Design, where I’m driven by a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, storytelling, and the power of clothing to shape how people feel, communicate, and connect.
โ
My design philosophy blends timeless elegance with thoughtful intention, rooted in traditional tailoring techniques but attuned to modern values of sustainability, inclusivity, and slow fashion. I’m inspired by the craftsmanship of designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Zuhair Murad, and Elie Saab, whose work celebrates confident femininity, timeless romanticism, elegant luxury, and meticulous detail.
โ
Before studying fashion design, I served in the United States Air Force, where I learned and practiced discipline, service before self, attention to detail, and adaptability; qualities that now guide both my design process and leadership style. Since then, I’ve carried those values into creative environments, from presenting at Belmont’s SPARK Symposium and contributing to FEMME Magazine, to volunteering with inclusive initiatives like Fashion Is For Every Body and MOVE Inclusive Dance Studio.
โ
I believe in the artistry of the process; the tactile satisfaction of working by hand, the rhythm of tailoring and construction, and the beauty of seeing an idea come to life before your eyes. My designs often feature structured silhouettes or built-in support for an exceptional fit, intricate details, embellishments, and controlled use of fabric and form, aiming to evoke confidence and individuality in the wearer. My color palette draws from jewel tones, rich neutrals, and metallic warmth, echoing both Old Hollywood glamour and timeless sophistication. Whether creating a tailored garment, restoring a vintage piece, or collaborating on fashion research, I approach every project with precision and a commitment to excellence.
โ
Beyond the studio and academia, I’m developing a project called Behind the Seams Experiences, a series of guided tours and events in Nashville designed to connect people with local fashion and design businesses that produce their work in-house. The goal is to celebrate transparency, sustainability, and craftsmanship by giving others the opportunity to meet the makers and better understand the artistry, talent, and time behind their garments, accessories, and home goods.
โ
At my core, I’m endlessly curious; a learner, a teacher, and a creative who believes that fashion is as much about ecocentrism, emotion, and communication as it is about style. I value benevolence, intentionality, and the preservation of traditional artistry, and I’m passionate about contributing to a future where beauty and responsibility coexist seamlessly.
